Devin O'Branagan
Devin O'Branagan is the author of SPIRIT WARRIORS and WITCH HUNT, published by Pocket Books in English and Heyne Books in German.

Devin comes from a long line of English metaphysicians and Irish bards.  A bohemian upbringing peopled her life with mystics and philosophers, actors and rock stars, as well as witches and shamans.  This unusual childhood fueled her creative fire and provided her with the esoteric knowledge that is the trademark of her fiction.

In her late twenties she moved, alone, to a log cabin in the wooded mountains of northern Arizona, and studied Native American mysteries on the nearby Hopi and Navajo reservations.  Her first novel, SPIRIT WARRIORS, was the result.

WITCH HUNT evolved from Devin's aversion to religious persecution of all forms, as well as a desire to explore the spiritual dimension of Wicca.  It is a cautionary tale about how personal power can corrupt those who lose sight of the universal power of divine love.

Devin's third novel, RED HOT PROPERTY, was released in the summer of 2008.  She now lives in the shadow of Colorado's Rocky Mountains and is hard at work on a new novel, RED HOT.  RED HOT is scheduled for release in 2009.

A common theme in all of her fiction is that of integrity, courage, and overcoming personal limitations to serve the greater good.  It is reflective of her own values.

Reviews
Rocky Mountain News: "WITCH HUNT has a riveting storyline that will keep you turning the pages late into the night."

Locus: "WITCH HUNT is another satisfying novel, steeped in metaphysical detail and filled with witch and spiritual lore.  WITCH HUNT is both earnest and entertaining, and augurs well for the author's next novel."

2 AM Magazine: "A superb examination of the corrupting influence of power: political, social, economic, religious, and sexual power. WITCH HUNT works well on several different levels, and the story comes very close to being a modern religious and political allegory."

Midnight Zoo: WITCH HUNT is an outstanding book which grabs you right from the beginning."

New Leaf: O'Branagan is a very talented writer, and the only problem with her work is that she doesn't write fast enough! Very highly recommended...

Rocky Mountain News: "I found SPIRIT WARRIORS difficult to put down. O'Branagan has skill at developing characters and suspense."

The Twilight Zone Magazine: "Unlike most other books I read, SPIRIT WARRIORS insinuated itself into my dreams after I finished the final chapters."

Llewellyn New Times: "SPIRIT WARRIORS is fabulous! It's one of the best researched novels around. Breathtaking!"

Novel Excerpt

"If it's witchcraft you wanted, It's witchcraft you're going to get," Margaret whispered.
The woman riding in the wagon closest to Margaret, who had apparently overheard her, gave her a surprised look.
"My familiar's name is Vengeance," Margaret said softly.
The woman smiled bitterly. "Then give it to them.
The snake manifested in the midst of the crowd and screams filled the air.
   "It's poisonous!" someone screamed. "Run!"
   The crowd scattered.
   "It's witchcraft!" someone else yelled.

"It's after the magistrate!"
He danced a sort of a jig in an attempt to evade the copperhead, but he was unsuccessful.  His screams of fear and agony filled the air as the fangs injected his poison in his leg.
"Will he die?" Margaret's companion asked.
"I leave that to the gods to decide" Margaret said.
The High Sheriff was undaunted by the diversion. He soothed the startled horses and led the wagon to the giant oak tree. Three nooses were already in place. The hanging was about to begin...

The Book of Shadows
With his eyes fixed on Paradise,
   the haunted Christian
blames the shadow. Plagued

by his own demons,
   soul bitten and loveless,
he is bound in the sackcloth of pride,

in cobwebs and ashes.
While there, thrilled to the wild,
dizzying ride of the flesh,

of phallus and womb, the fresh
dew of this world, the red,
simple wing of original joy,

like the berrying spring of a child's
   renewal, the Witch slips out
of the black diaphanous robe

of our common sleep. Behind
that half-curtain, lives with the sharp
knowledge of danger (Do not, whatever

else you may do, be discovered!).
Out of that horn of magic, desire,
flesh at once richer and paler than ivory

is bathed—Look!—in original light!
...Or are those only the elegant
ivory bars of the cage

in which both have been trapped:
   Earth-delighted no less than he
with his cross-obsessed pain?

While She-Without-Form,
   resurrected again and again,
cries out from the nailed thirst of this world

to our own resurrection, that single
   commandment: Love!—O heart's simple name!
O first and final salvation!
